Meet Chesley
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in counseling addressing:
Anxiety and panic
Depression
Illness and disability
Grief and loss
Caregiving stress
Life transitions
I approach counseling as a partnership. Together we determine the goals that are right for you, but our work is primarily driven by you. By your unique situation, experiences, and need. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy approaches to help you connect how your thoughts, feelings and actions affect each other and to change those patterns that aren’t working for you. I integrate mindfulness techniques throughout my counseling practice, to promote self-care, peace and overall wellness.
A little more about me
I was lucky enough to grow up in rural Maine, enjoying adventures on my parents' small farm and the surrounding countryside. After graduating with my bachelor's from Dartmouth College and a master's from The College of William and Mary, I moved back to Maine with my husband to start our lives here. As life has a way of doing, our plans were interrupted. Serious illness, and later a disability, hit our family. Very quickly I had to learn to navigate the world as a patient, and then to apply those same tools to advocating as a parent. My experience taught me that at times I needed help, and that at times I was able to help others struggling to find their way. I began volunteering and advocating for patients and families. Ultimately, I made the decision to devote my professional career to helping people through counseling and advocacy, and earned my Master of Social Work from the University of New England. I have worked with patients and families in the primary care setting, hospice, and oncology. In private practice, I bring this experience to helping you navigate the unique challenges that life presents.
